Remembering Tony Digiovanna

It is with great sadness that we report i9 Sports and the entire community has lost a valued coach, friend, husband, and father with the recent passing of Tony Digiovanna.

Tony was a proud coach of his son's team in flag football this past fall season and will be sorely missed as he exemplified the core values of putting his players first by teaching them valuable life lessons through sports, love and kindness. He set an example for all coaches and parents to aspire.

In honor of Tony's memory, i9 Sports will be awarding each flag football season the Annual Tony Digiovanna "Life Lessons Learned through Sports" Coaching Award to the coach that best exemplifies these high standards each season.

Condolences goes out Tony's family and to all that knew Tony, including his players and friends.

11/2/11 - Welcome to the i9 Sports "News and Notesworthty" section. Here you will find all of the latest breaking information on all of our programs. NOVEMBER 2nd (Flag Football) -       WEATHER, SCHEDULES AND PLAYOFFS

A check on the records book dating back to the start of youth flag football in Loudoun County in 1997 shows that NEVER has there been a Fall Season with so much rain - and thus game cancellations as a result. As you can imagine, all recreational sports leagues are having a very difficult time with scheduling the remaining portions of their seasons. i9 Sports is no exception as we have investigated many different options - including consulting with coaches and parents to come up with the best solution for our Fall Season kids, coaches and parents.

We ask that you visit the schedule link on the i9 Sports web site for the latest dates, times & field locations for you team as it is now updated.

But in summary. There has been four weeks of cancellations throughout all of Loudoun County Sports. i9 Sports is proud to say that we were able to extend our season and make up two of these weeks. We thank our field providers for allowing us to use their fields these extra weeks as normally they are shut down for the winter to prevent further damages from occurring. We are also pressed up against Thanksgiving Day week where many coaches and parents leave town for an extended holiday.

Our plan at i9 Sports is that all Playoffs will be held on Saturday November 12th (except Senior Division which will be held on November 5th). It will be a one day playoff that could feature teams playing an additional three games. In the "Top Gun" Divisions, the top half of the teams record wise in the regular season will make the playoffs. These teams will then play a traditional playoff rounds in which a Super Bowl Champion is crowned. So teams can play up to an additional three games on November 12th. In the "Rec" Divisions - all teams will play a one game consolation playoff game (1st Place will play 2nd Place, 3rd Place vs 4th Place, etc). Rec teams as is the nature of this division being less time committed to parents and competitive compared "Top Gun" will play just the one consolation playoff game on November 12th.
